Signature Wedding Cake

At Gerastan Bakehouse, we limit the number of orders we take to 2 weddings in one week. I do have a minimum starting price of £450.00 for my 3-tiered wedding cakes for 2023.

Most people do tend to budget between £550-800. It really is dependent on the cake design and the individual needs of the couple.

It is often best to let me know your budget and send me some ideas as to the style of cake you would like, and the number of portions required. I can then design your cake & provide a quote whilst bearing this in mind.

It is still achievable to have a simple cake with the wow factor and get maximum "bang for your buck". You may also consider having a smaller one- or two-tier cake for the purpose of a wonderful "cutting the cake" photograph.

Wedding cake delivery and setup at the venue are charged at £25 plus 75p per mile.

Please get in touch as soon as you have your confirmed wedding date and venue, as I normally take wedding bookings one year in advance.

How much does a wedding cake cost?

When calculating the cost of a wedding cake, many factors are taken into consideration:

The Menu choice and Ingredients

This will form the very basic starting price for a cake.

Time and attention to detail

It's not only just the time for baking and making your wedding cake, there is also lots of other timings to consider: answering queries, sending quotes, preparing for consultations, baking for consultations, the consultation itself, researching designs, designing the cake, shopping for ingredients, mixing, baking, making fillings, filling and ganaching, icing, making and attaching decorations, etc.

On top of this there is the contacting and planning with venues and florists, preparing the cake for delivery, delivering the cake, assembling the cake at the venue, washing up, cleaning the workspace, admin time . . .

. . . just some of the tasks a professional wedding cake maker has to undertake, for each and every cake they make.

As I have food allergies and intolerances myself, I am very well-aware of the need for great care in the ingredients and making of our cakes. Our kitchen is designed around this important aspect of our work

Your Wedding Cake Journey

Planning & Dates

As soon as you have booked your wedding venue, get in touch with me to find out if I am available on your wedding date. I only take a maximum of two wedding cake orders per week so in peak months, I can be fully booked up to two years in advance.

If you don’t know exactly what style of cake you would like yet, that’s not a problem. Via email, telephone and face-to-face, we can discuss all of your ideas, and I can design a cake that will fit perfectly with your wedding aesthetic, venue & budget.

You can secure your wedding date with me with a £100 non-refundable deposit and then I will arrange to contact you nearer the wedding date to confirm all the finer details.

Cake Design

After securing your wedding date with me, and after initial discussions, I will arrange a suitable time for your final ‘design consultation’ and tasting box.

We will look at the cake sketches and talk about all your wedding details and plan how your cake will complement the rest of your wedding.

We will discuss the venue, the styling, where the cake will be displayed and how to get the most impact from your cake and create a centrepiece.

To help with the design process, it is a good idea to have any colour samples, stationery, theme ideas etc with you during the consultation.

In the tasting box you will be able to sample six cake flavours and fillings from the menu. You can then mix and match to your preference and choose a different flavour per tier of your cake.

Delivery & Setup

Around 6 weeks before your wedding, I will be in touch to confirm all the final details.

Your final balance will be due 28 days before your wedding date.

The week of your wedding, I will liaise with your venue to coordinate the delivery and set up of your wedding cake.

If you are having fresh flowers on your cake, I will also contact your florist to coordinate our arrival times or to collect the day before.

All you need to do, is sit back and relax and look forward to your special day.
